What the Met Office warning says
Storm Boelo's Amber wind warning covers 34 regions across northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, including the Highlands & Eilean Siar, Grampian, Tayside & Fife, Strathclyde, south-west Scotland, the Lothians & Borders, North East and North West England, and Northern Ireland. It runs from 9pm Saturday to 9pm tonight.
The Met Office is forecasting widespread gusts of 70mph, up to 80mph on exposed coasts, with western Scotland and the north of Northern Ireland facing the worst of it first as the winds track eastward. Its own advice warns of a "good chance" of power cuts, flying debris that could cause injury, damage to buildings and trees, and disruption to mobile phone coverage as well as electricity supply.
